Guide for players

Your GM invited you to Epicly. Here's what that means and how to get the most out of it.

Accepting your invite

When your GM adds you to a campaign, Epicly sends you an invitation email. What happens next depends on whether you already have an account:

  • New to Epicly? The email contains a magic link that lets you choose a password and finish setting up your account. Once you're in, you'll be connected to the campaign automatically.
  • Already have an account? The email notifies you that you've been added to a new campaign. Log in and you'll see it on your dashboard.

If you didn't receive the invite email, check your spam folder or ask your GM to resend it from the campaign settings.

Your dashboard

Once you're logged in, your dashboard shows every campaign you belong to — both ones you created and ones where you're a player. For campaigns you've been invited to, you'll see recent sessions and a button to jump straight into the Campaign Codex.

You won't see upload or settings controls for campaigns you don't own — those are GM-only. You can browse, read, and (where the GM has allowed it) contribute to the Codex.

Session recaps

After each session is processed, Epicly generates a full recap. As a player, you'll receive it automatically by email — no action needed on your end. The recap lands in your inbox the moment it's ready.

Inside the app, you can also read recaps directly from the campaign's session list. Each recap page includes:

  • A written summary of the session in the GM's chosen voice and length
  • A bullet-point highlights list
  • The session attendance list (who was there)
  • Player achievements from that session

Player achievements

After each session, Epicly generates achievements for the party. These celebrate memorable moments — a clutch roll, a dramatic roleplay beat, a hilariously on-brand decision, or a spectacular failure. Achievements are generated automatically from the session content and show up on the session detail page alongside the recap.

Think of them as the official record of the moments worth commemorating. Great to screenshot and share.

The Campaign Codex

The Codex is a searchable wiki of your campaign's world — NPCs, locations, factions, items, quests, and lore. It's built and updated automatically after every session.

As a player, you can:

  • Browse the wiki. Read any entry your GM has made visible to players. Use the folder tree on the left to navigate, or search for a specific name.
  • Search across sessions. Find any character, place, or item that's appeared in your campaign, with links back to the sessions where it came up.
  • Add notes to entries (where allowed). Your GM can open individual entries or folders for player edits. If an entry shows an edit option, you can add your own observations, theories, or character notes directly to that page.

Some entries and folders may be hidden from players — your GM keeps secrets until the story calls for a reveal. If you can't find something you expect to see, it might not have been unlocked yet.

What players can't do

To keep campaigns organized, a few things are GM-only:

  • Uploading sessions
  • Editing the Codex in Auto or Review mode
  • Accessing the GM's Guide or Lorekeeper
  • Changing campaign settings or the player roster

If you want to contribute session notes or recap corrections, talk to your GM — they can incorporate your input during their review or add you as a GM if you're co-running the campaign.

Tips for players

  • Read the recap before every session. It takes a few minutes and means you'll show up knowing exactly where things stand — no 30-minute table recap needed.
  • Check the Codex before asking "wait, who was that?" Search the wiki first — the answer is probably there.
  • Look at the achievements. They're worth a read, and they're funnier than you expect.
